As the new league year approaches on March 11, many NFL teams are gearing up for the upcoming season by making strategic moves. Several teams are reshuffling their rosters to create more salary cap space, while others are focused on strengthening their coaching staff. Recently, a former Buffalo Bills player has landed an exciting new position.

Former Bills Player Will Clapp Lands NFL Coaching Job

Will Clapp, who played on the offensive line for the Bills in 2024 and retired this offseason, will be joining the New Orleans Saints as an offensive assistant.

“New Orleans Saints Head Coach Kellen Moore announced today that Will Clapp has been hired as an offensive assistant”, the Saints announced in a press release on Tuesday.

“Clapp joins the New Orleans Saints coaching staff after retiring from an eight-year NFL career as an offensive lineman. He was originally selected by New Orleans in the seventh round (245th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Louisiana State University. The New Orleans native appeared in 66 career regular season games with 22 starts at both guard positions, center and as a jumbo offensive lineman for the Saints (2018-21, 2025), Los Angeles Chargers (2022-23) and Buffalo Bills (2024). He also played in four postseason contests for the Saints, Chargers and Bills.”

Although Clapp spent a season with the Bills, he didn’t have much impact on the team, appearing in only one regular season game. After leaving the Bills in 2025, he signed with the Saints but suffered a Lisfranc injury in his first preseason game in New Orleans, ending his season and his career.

Clapp Worked With the Saints Coaching Staff Last Season

Although Clapp didn’t play last season, he made a significant impact on the Saints. While he was going through rehab, he also assisted the coaching staff.

“I do my rehab in the mornings, and I’ll go to sit in meetings,” Clapp said on Nov. 13, via Ross Jackson, in an exclusive interview on 104.5 ESPN Baton Rouge’s “After Further Review”. “I’m the only one that’s been with [head coach Kellen Moore] and [offensive line coach Brendan Nugent] from [Los Angeles]. So I’ll ask questions in the line room. Maybe a question that a younger player might not want to ask or think to ask. Just do stuff like that. I make some cutups during the week for the guys. Just stuff that I always thought would be helpful or things that I liked when I was a younger player.”

It looks like Clapp was ready to take on a coaching role last season, and it’s great to see him land a coaching job just days after hanging up his cleats. Since the Bills will be facing the NFC North this season, they won’t face Clapp.

It will be intriguing to see how Clapp performs as a coach. Perhaps one day he will climb the coaching ladder and eventually land a head coaching position in college football or even the NFL.
