He won’t be walking down the aisle anytime soon.

Cam Newton, who shares nine children with three different women, explained why he doesn’t believe marriage is for him.

“I want to be around who want to be around me,” the former NFL star said on a recent appearance on the “TalkLesShow” podcast. “So if it’s five [women], if it’s six, if it’s one. I like volunteers. I don’t like hostages.”

When asked Newton if being married would mean holding someone “hostage,” he reiterated, “I don’t think it to be anything. I like volunteers, not hostages. I want people around me who want to be around me, and I want them around me.”

The former Carolina Panthers star, who has been dating comedian Jasmin Brown since 2021, also pointed out that he would be a “hostage” in a marriage.

“I just want you to be happy. And if I’m the person that’s bringing you happy, you can have marriage with no commitment. And you don’t have to have marriage to have a commitment,” he shared.

Newton then shared that it would be “fine” if he never got married — “as long as [he has his] life partner.”

“People always try to make that weird to understand,” he said of having a longtime partner with no marriage commitment.

He also defended his belief against giving women engagement and wedding rings because it would turn marriage into a “gift-giving contest.”

“I want you to listen and play this back because this is how most women sound, ‘I just want a ring, I just want a ring, I just want a ring.’ Well, why? ‘Because of marriage, ’cause of marriage’… Find where the ring was in the Bible,” he said.

“I’m not going to be bullied into giving a gift because that’s what it sounds like. It sounds like you’re trying to corner a cat.”
