The New York Giants could be in the market for a pair of linebackers this offseason and one analyst predicts that will lead to a trade with the Chicago Bears.

The Giants’ needs at linebacker stem from the team’s release of Bobby Okereke on Wednesday, and the pending free-agent status of Micah McFadden.

With the Giants looking for a linebacker, and with the Bears willing to trade one, Jacob Infante of Windy City Gridiron predicts the two teams will strike a deal involving two-time Pro Bowl linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.

Infante’s predicted trade sees New York sending a fourth-round pick to Chicago. The deal would see the Bears also save $15 million in cap space.

The Bears recently granted Edmunds permission to seek a trade, so it’s a matter of when, not if, Chicago cuts ties with him.

While Edmunds wasn’t bad last season, he didn’t exactly live up to his $70 million contract, either. The Bears have a need for cap space this offseason, which makes trading Edmunds an even easier decision to make.

Edmunds is serviceable in coverage and in the pass-rush, but he really excels as a tackler and against the run, the latter of which Okereke struggled mightily with in 2025. Edmunds’ 81.3 run-defense grade ranked 15th among linebackers, per Pro Football Focus.

A Giants-Bears trade involving Edmunds is a realistic possibility, as ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the Giants were one of the teams that “like” the veteran linebacker, along with the Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders.

“The Titans, Raiders and Giants are among teams interested in high-end linebackers, and they like Edmunds, who’s only 27 despite eight years in the league,” Fowler reported.

Knowing that, don’t be surprised if the Giants and Bears strike a trade in the near future.
