Was Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold the best free agent signing in 2025?
Darnold signed a three-year, $100.5 million deal with the Seahawks prior to the start of last season. The former No. 3 overall pick from 2018 recorded his first 4,000-yard season in 2024 for the Minnesota Vikings, throwing for 4,319 yards after throwing for over 3,000 yards only once in his six prior seasons in the NFL.

According to The MMQB’s Matt Verderame, Darnold was the best free agent signing in the class of 2025.
Verderame ranked Darnold higher than Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams (No. 2), Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones (No. 3), former New England Patriots WR Stefon Diggs (No. 4) as well as Chicago Bears center Drew Dalman (No. 5).
Darnold recorded his second season throwing for 4,000 yards in 2025, as he went for 4,048. The California native registered 25 touchdowns while completing 67.7 percent of his passes last season. Darnold led the Seahawks to a win in the Super Bowl in 2026.
