Before the 2025 offseason, the San Francisco 49ers appeared to have a solid foundation of targets to give quarterback Brock Purdy, with Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall and George Kittle.

However, the 49ers traded Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders on March 12. Aiyuk never returned from his serious knee injury and is expected to move on from San Francisco this offseason. Pearsall had issues staying on the field due to a PCL injury.
Jauan Jennings, the 49ers’ second-leading receiver last season behind running back Christian McCaffrey, is set to test free agency next week. So it is no surprise that San Francisco is looking at adding receiver help in free agency.

Per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the 49ers are showing interest in Indianapolis Colts receiver Alec Pierce and Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs, set to hit free agency next week.
“Along those lines, I’ve heard they have an interest in both Alec Pierce and Romeo Doubs on the free-agent market,” Breer wrote. “And failing that, there’s a deep class in the draft, with Indiana’s Omar Cooper Jr. sticking out as a nice fit for San Francisco.”
Pierce, a second-round pick by the Colts in 2022, recorded 47 receptions for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns last season, leading Indianapolis in receiving. The Colts reportedly considered using a franchise or transition tag on Pierce, but used the transition tag on quarterback Daniel Jones, complicating negotiations with the star receiver.
Pierce recently stated that he likes the Colts, but believes he’s earned the right to test free agency next week.
Doubs, a fifth-round pick by the Packers in 2022, recorded 55 receptions for 724 yards and six touchdowns last season.
Both receivers would be of help to Purdy and a 49ers offense in need of a reliable target in the upcoming season.Â
