The Minnesota Vikings are navigating in relatively uncharted waters. Having fired general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah deep into the 2026 NFL offseason, relatively speaking, they’ve decided to operate through the NFL Draft without a general manager.

Instead, longtime executive Rob Brzezinski in handling front office duties, with heavy assistance and influence in in roster decisions from head coach Kevin O’Connell and and defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

When the draft is complete, the MN Vikings are expected to hire a new general manager. Whether they go outside the organization for that hire, or stay in-house with Brzezinski, remains up in the air.

Mike Tice believes the Minnesota Vikings are in good hands

From the sounds of it, however, Rob has plenty of support across the league, given the relationships and immense respect he has built during his two decades-plus as an NFL executive.

On Thursday, former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice threw is support for Brzezinski into the public sphere, as well, via Twitter reply to an article written at ESPN by Vikings beat writer Kevin Seifert.

Rob can do it and has done it before under the ownership of Red McCombs. He will shine.

Tice — who hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2017 — was the Minnesota Vikings head coach for five seasons, from 2001-2005, but he started in the organization in 1996 as the team’s tight ends coach, meaning he was already in the building when Rob Brzezinski was first hired in 1999, as Vikings Director of Football Administration.

Fast forward to 2026, Brzezinski is entering his 28th season in Minnesota, a longevity that highlights, not just the type of executive Rob is, but the type of person he is too.

Never one for the limelight, while everyone else is focused on whether or not he will be named the Vikings’ next GM, it seems to be the last thing on Rob Brzezinski’s mind.

“A big part of that is balancing what we’re doing in 2026 versus the future. It’s just inherent in my role. I feel like that’s a critical part of when I talk about the guardrails and the vision and the philosophy. To make sure maybe if we’re veering a little bit, to try to make a decision that maybe is not the best for the long term, maybe we can come back to what we talked about originally and say, ‘Hey, remember we talked about this is the way we’re going to do things? This is our philosophy. I think we can just lean on that and go from there.”

Heading into free agency, Brzezinski has already made some difficult discussion, letting veterans Aaron Jones, Javon Hargrave, and Jonathan Allen all know they are cap casualties, while also navigating the choppy QB waters that are threatening to destroy another Minnesota Vikings season.

How Brzezinski handles the next month or two, leading up the the NFL Draft, will not only shape the franchise’s future, but they could very well dictate Rob’s role in the organization going forward, as well.

Rob Brzezinski is focus on the present for MN Vikings

Only the Wilfs know if they would consider naming Rob Brzezinski their next general manager. Only Brzezinski himself knows if he even wants that role. For now though, navigating free agency and the draft, he’s looking to do right by the team regardless of what the future front office infrastructure looks lile.

“Our goal is going to be to keep our core in place, and that’s going to involve making some difficult decisions on some players, which you deal with on a daily basis. But I think for the most part, our goal is going to be to draft and develop and to retain our core, and supplement with free agency.”

It’s not lost on Brzezinski that the Vikings spent substantially the past two seasons. In large part that’s a byproduct of failed draft picks taken under the direction of Adofo-Mensah. Brzezinski isn’t interested in an unsustainable path forward, and he wants to leave things in the best possible state whether he’s in the same role or not.

Kevin O’Connell needs the Minnesota Vikings to right the ship. It certainly impacts his future with the team more than it does Brzezinski’s.
