The Denver Broncos have re-signed backup quarterback Sam Ehlinger. On Sunday night, Ehlinger reportedly agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal keeping the gunslinger in Colorado in 2026 The transaction was first reported by Jordan Schultz.
Ehlinger (6-1, 222 pounds) turned down active-roster offers from at least three NFL teams last year to instead remain with the Broncos as their third-string quarterback, primarily on the practice squad.
The 27-year-old quarterback will now get an opportunity to compete for QB2 duties alongside Jarrett Stidham.
Ehlinger started three games with the Indianapolis Colts in 2022, completing 63.4% of his passes for 573 yards with three touchdowns against three interceptions. Indy went 0-3 in those contests, but Ehlinger looked sharp in preseason last summer.
The Broncos meanwhile lock up Elhinger in the midst of speculation of a Jarrett Stidham trade. Bo Nix has started for the Broncos since being picked by the team in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. He’s 24-10 as a starter in the regular season, only missing one game after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in last season’s playoffs.
