Cowboys urged to sign former PFF darling to fix major weakness – Ryan Heckman, The Landry Hat
Hopefully, Jerry isn’t done adding talent.
Kendall Fuller is a versatile cornerback who’s been a favorite of Pro Football Focus for a long time
Say what you will about Pro Football Focus, but they have loved Fuller for a while now. In both 2021 and 2023, he earned an overall grade over 80.0 which is very rare. For context, only five corners earned that high of a grade in 2024.
Moton made even more sense of Dallas potentially adding Fuller, noting his versatility.
“Dallas can bring in Fuller to shore up its pass coverage. He can line up outside to fill in for Diggs and transition into the slot if none of the young defensive backs impress in nickel duties.”
The fact Fuller could play both outside and inside, for Dallas, is a huge reason to sign him. He’s a proven veteran who, surprisingly, has never made a Pro Bowl. However, in nine seasons, Fuller has totaled 16 interceptions and 82 pass breakups over his career.
The Cowboys have a recent history of not going out and making splash moves in free agency, but this would be as good of a consolation as any, at this stage in the offseason. Jerry Jones should get it done, and if he does, fans will be far more relaxed about the state of the secondary.
Dak Prescott already shouting praises of Brian Schottenheimer era – Tyler Reed, Sports Illustrated
News of Schottenheimer has been encouraging thus far.
Sure, hiring a coach from a staff that you just gave a pink slip to may not scream optimism. But Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s recent comments may change all of those who are not sold on the Schottenheimer hiring.
When recently speaking with the media, Prescott told reporters that Schottenheimer is “Doing a hell of a job,” building a new culture in Dallas.
Prescott and Schottenheimer should already have a strong bond, as the two were inseparable the past two seasons on the sidelines.
However, Schottenheimer is now tasked with building chemistry with the entire roster, and Prescott’s ringing endorsement should make fans feel very confident in year one under their new head coach.
Coaching changes are never easy, but it feels like Schottenheimer becoming the head coach in Dallas has been a smooth transition.
One main factor makes the Cowboys 2025 NFC East favorites – Mario Herrera Jr, Inside The Star
This season has the potential to be a good one.
Division Dominance
His division wins have often come in crucial moments, battles for playoff positioning, primetime matchups, and must-win situations.
Prescott’s poise and control at the line of scrimmage, coupled with his dual-threat capability, have been critical factors in his NFC East success.
Under Prescott, the Cowboys have regularly finished atop the division standings, appearing in the playoffs multiple times.
While the team’s postseason success remains a topic of scrutiny, there’s no denying Prescott’s ability to command the NFC East.
With the return of a healthy offensive line, a potent receiving corps led by wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, and an innovative coaching staff, Prescott remains the division’s gold standard under center.
Despite the Philadelphia Eagles winning the Super Bowl a season ago and maintaining a talented roster for 2025, the Cowboys, led by Prescott’s commanding 33-8 division record, should be considered NFC East favorites.
That mark of success is more than a stat; it’s a trend that spans nearly a decade. Prescott hasn’t just beaten division rivals, he’s owned them.
Even in seasons where the Eagles surged nationally, the Cowboys consistently took care of business within the division.
Prescott’s familiarity with rival defenses, ability to exploit mismatches, and overall consistency give Dallas a competitive edge few teams can match.
Until another quarterback proves capable of consistently beating Prescott in divisional play, the Cowboys should enter each season as the NFC East team to beat.
It’s fun to have a reliable DT again.
Odighizuwa is the quintessential three-technique defensive tackle, lining up against either guard on a regular basis. He’ll occasionally play defensive end, but those snaps are primarily in situations when Dallas goes into a three-man front. Although his sack totals don’t scream elite, his pressure metrics do as he’s consistently among the league’s top interior players in getting into the backfield on passing plays. As a run defender, he does leave something to be desired.
The Cowboys have failed to augment Odighizuwa with another quality interior player, and as such the team continues to struggle along the defensive line despite teaming Agent OO97 with elite edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Odighizuwa started 12 of 16 games as a rookie, and has started all 17 games in each of the last three seasons. He has 13.5 career sacks, including 4.5 in 2024 when he has 60 pressures, third-most of all defensive linemen. He’ll be spelled this season by Solomon Thomas, a 2025 free-agent acquisition, and most likely flanked by Mazi Smith, their 2023 first-round pick out of Michigan.
There isn’t much in the cupboard at defensive tackle for the Cowboys, which has been the storyline of the last couple seasons and the reason Odighizuwa logged over 850 snaps in 2024. Dallas could still look to play the late free-agent market to bring in more depth as the offseason progresses.
There are a few new faces to get familiar with before the 2025 season. Elam is one.
With Jourdan Lewis’ departure in free agency, the Cowboys were in a scary spot again at corner, but trading for Kaiir Elam and the drafting of Shavon Revel Jr. gives the Cowboys more capable options at corner. Revel is currently still rehabbing an ACL tear he suffered early in the 2024 season at East Carolina. So it is unclear if he will be ready for the start of the season. Along with Revel, Trevon Diggs is rehabbing a knee injury and could miss time in 2025.
That is where Kaiir Elam comes into play. Elam is heading into year four of his young NFL career, after being drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. So far, Elam has been a disappointment in Buffalo, and the Cowboys made a low-risk, high-reward trade for Elam earlier in the offseason. Elam and the Cowboys are hoping a change of scenery will jumpstart his career. He was a high-quality player at Florida which landed him in the first round.
Elam has size, length, and above average athleticism. He received an impressive 8.64 relative athletic score (RAS) after his testing leading up to the 2022 NFL draft. Coming out of college, Elam had all the tools to project as a quality starting cornerback on the boundary in the NFL. Elam’s inability to get on the field, and struggles when he did get on the field in Buffalo, led to him spending most of his time on the sideline over the last two years. So far this offseason, Elam has said and done all the right things. With the Cowboys electing to not pick up his fifth-year option, both the Cowboys and Elam have a big opportunity in 2025.
