Offensive linemen Andrew Wylie and Nick Allegretti discuss their rare NFL brotherhood after signing new contracts to stay with the Commanders through 2027.
ASHBURN, Va. — Offensive linemen Andrew Wylie and Nick Allegretti are staying with the Washington Commanders, signing new deals that will keep the longtime friends together through the 2027 season.
Key Takeaways: Wylie & Allegretti Extensions
The Contracts: Wylie signed a new two-year deal to avoid free agency, while Allegretti agreed to a re-worked two-year contract to match his teammate’s timeline.
The Bond: The two linemen have played together every year since 2019 (except for 2023), dating back to their time with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Center Battle: With Tyler Biadasz departing for the Los Angeles Chargers, Allegretti is actively eyeing the starting center job for 2026.
NFL players live a nomadic life. Even if a player spends their whole career in one city, the number of teammates they’ll cycle through is immeasurable. Because of that reality, it isn’t uncommon to hear a player talk about a friend they rarely get to see. For these two Commanders, however, outside of only the 2023 NFL season, they’ve been able to lean on each other in battle and in the locker room every year since first joining forces in 2019.

Locker Room Perspective: A Rare NFL Brotherhood
Upon re-signing with Washington this offseason, Wylie shared that his relationship with his fellow linemen is “super” impactful on his own return.
“You know, it’s not one of those things that happens in the NFL today. You get to be on your team with your best friend, you know, for the longest,” Wylie said. “It’s rare to even have one of those guys that you meet in the NFL. So, [I’m] super stoked for Nicki to get in this building and sign and play the position that he really is super confident in as well.”
Wylie was a pending free agent prior to signing his two-year deal to return to the Commanders before hitting free agency. Allegretti was already under contract for the 2026 season and agreed to a reworked two-year deal that keeps him on the team for the same period, ensuring he and Wylie can continue their efforts together.
Commanders Offensive Line: Veteran Continuity
| Player | Position | 2025 Status | 2026-2027 Outlook |
| Andrew Wylie | OT/G | Pending FA | Signed new 2-year deal |
| Nick Allegretti | G/C | Under Contract | Re-worked 2-year deal |
| Sam Cosmi | RG | Starter | Under Contract |
| Laremy Tunsil | LT | Starter | Under Contract (Pending Extension)|
Talking this week after signing his new deal, Allegretti echoed Wylie’s sentiment, saying, “It’s awesome. I mean, Bi-Wy, he’s like family to me and really my entire family, and his as well. I think they’re going to be coming out to my parents’ house probably in a few weeks. …Seeing him sign and then being able to sign and stay, that’s pretty cool because I was told a long time ago by an old Illinois player who played in the NFL and basically said, ‘It’s hard to make friends in the NFL. You’re not going to be able to make a lot of them.’”
“Big-Wy, he’s like family to me and really my entire family… I was told a long time ago by an old Illinois player… ‘It’s hard to make friends in the NFL. You’re not going to be able to make a lot of them,’” Allegretti said.

Inside the Building: Allegretti’s Push for the Starting Center Job
Allegretti appeared in 16 games last season with starts at right guard before the return of Sam Cosmi and at center at the end of the year after Tyler Biadasz suffered knee and ankle injuries in Week 17.
Baidasz has since been released and signed with the Los Angeles Chargers last week, leaving a job open for the starting center in Washington. Allegretti’s excitement and comfort level playing center last year.
“At center, you really get to communicate to all five,” Allegretti said. “Occasionally, the tight ends [and] quarterback. I get to use the skills and the things I’ve learned in the mental side of football, probably the most at center.”
Looking Ahead: Anchoring the 2026 Washington Offense
Allegretti is hoping for the chance to compete for that job, but understands that life in the NFL guarantees nothing, and he’s ready for whatever role the team needs him to fill during the coming season.
“Sky’s the limit for Nicki,” Wylie said. “And I’m just super stoked to get another crack at this thing.”
The two have plans to link up in the offseason, as friends often do. And when the time comes, they’ll meet again in Washington, aiming to figure out what all of the changes coming mean, and how this new offense will look in 2026.
Both men are excited for what’s to come, anticipating getting things back on track with the Commanders, and, thanks to their good fortune and established presence in the locker room and the team’s culture, they’ll get to ride the ride together.
