One day after CBS Sports Jonathan Jones reported that it would be a “surprise” if the Jacksonville Jaguars traded Brian Thomas Jr., another report says otherwise.
SNY’s Connor Hughes, who covers the Giants and Jets, says that the Jaguars are “entertaining” offers for Thomas Jr.
“Multiple sources telling SNY that Jacksonville is entertaining offers for Brian Thomas, their playmaking, third-year wideout, who they drafted in the first round just a couple of years ago,” Hughes said.
Hughes added that at last year’s trade deadline, the Jets and Giants both called the Jaguars about Thomas Jr., but Jacksonville was not interested in trading him.
“This offseason, that stance has changed,” Hughes added. “It’s not about being completely and totally blown away, in fact, multiple sources I talked to believe that something ultimately could get done for a price that is a bit more reasonable. It’s absolutely something worth watching.”

After recording nearly 1,300 receiving yards as a rookie, Thomas Jr.’s production took a sizeable step back in 2025, with him totaling just 728 receiving yards. Drops were an issue for a large portion of the season as well.
In the Liam Coen offense that doesn’t necessarily thrive off having a true No. 1 target, rather, the ball is spread around with the opponent and matchups dictating who the top target is on a weekly basis, that could make the Jaguars more willing to move on from Thomas Jr., who has shown he has No. 1 target capabilities.
Trading Thomas Jr. at this stage in his career could also net the Jaguars a sizeable return.
Why the Jaguars wouldn’t trade Brian Thomas Jr.
We’ve already covered this quite a bit but there are a lot of good reasons that the Jaguars shouldn’t trade Thomas Jr. The first of which is that Thomas Jr. is entering just the third year of his rookie deal, and given his previous production coupled with his potential, that is a tremendous value for the Jaguars, who still have two years of team control plus a fifth-year option.
Then, going beyond the production that Thomas Jr. can bring to this offense, when he was sidelined last season with an ankle injury, his presence within the offense was very much missed.
With his ability to stretch the field, that creates better spacing and opportunities for others to exploit. When Thomas Jr. was sidelined, this element was missing, and the Jaguars felt the effects of that.
Lastly, with Travis Hunter reportedly playing cornerback full-time and wide receiver part-time, Thomas Jr. is going to remain a big part of this offense moving forward.
If you ask me, there are a lot more reasons to hold on to Thomas Jr. than to trade him.
