Long snapper Josh Harris will continue his climb toward the Auburn record for NFL games with the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2026 season.

Harris’ contract was set to expire on Wednesday afternoon. But shortly before that happened, the Chargers announced they had reached an agreement on a contract extension with the long snapper. Terms of the new deal were not released.

Harris has played in 215 NFL regular-season games. Only five Auburn alumni have appeared in more.

Kicker Al Del Greco holds the program’s NFL record for games with 248 regular-season appearances. Between Del Greco and Harris are fullback Tony Richardson with 234 games, outside linebacker Kevin Greene with 228 and offensive tackle Wayne Gandy and linebacker Takeo Spikes with 219 apiece.

If Harris plays in every game, he would break Del Greco’s record in the final contest of the 2027 season.

Harris did not play in every game in the 2025 season, only the second time that had happened in his 14 NFL campaigns.

Harris spent the first nine games of the 2025 season on injured reserve after getting hurt while making a tackle on punt coverage in the Chargers’ preseason finale. Los Angeles did not have to detail the nature of the injury because it occurred in the preseason, but the Chargers’ injury report for the week that he returned listed Harris with a chest injury.

A Pro Bowl selection in 2021, Harris played his first 10 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before joining Los Angeles as a free agent before the 2022 season.
