The Buffalo Bills have agreed to terms with former Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Kyle Allen on a two-year deal worth $4.1 million and another $2 million in incentives.

Allen, a former undrafted free agent from the 2018 NFL draft class, started his career bouncing around from the Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders, Houston Texans, and Buffalo Bills. Allen also previously spent time as a backup for the Steelers in 2024, where attempted one pass, which was a completion for 19 yards.

Allen spent the 2025 season on the Detroit Lions roster as a backup to Jared Goff and he didn’t see much action with a healthy season from Goff. Allen will now join another former Steelers quarterback in Mitch Trubisky and make the jump from the Bills to the Steelers and ultimately back to the Bills. Trubisky signed with the Tennessee Titans this week.

Kyle Allen’s most productive season came in 2019 with Carolina when he stepped in as the starter and threw for 3,322 yards and 17 touchdowns. Throughout his NFL career he has appeared in over 30 games with 19 starts, completing about 62% of his passes for 4,753 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions, while posting a career passer rating around 82. As a starter, Allen holds a career record of roughly 7–12, showing flashes of strong play while often filling in during injuries or quarterback transitions.

In Buffalo, Allen is expected to serve as the primary backup to franchise quarterback Josh Allen. His experience starting games and working in multiple offensive systems makes him a valuable presence behind one of the league’s top quarterbacks, giving the Bills a dependable option if needed while also helping support the offense in preparation and game planning throughout the season.
