The Dallas Cowboys aren’t done making moves in free agency. The club has made a couple major additions to their roster, and several small ones, over the course of the week. The legal tampering period began Monday, followed by the start of the new league year on Wednesday, and the club has added a couple starters and mostly depth.

Late on Wednesday night, they hedged in the middle. Dallas has reached a one-year agreement with former Los Angeles Rams cornerback Cobie Durant. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was the first to report the agreement.

A 2022 fourth-round pick, Durant has spent his entire career with the Rams, and excelled during their run to the 2025 NFC Championship game. In his three games, Durant turned in an NFL-playoff-leading three interceptions as well as seven pass deflections.

He also had three regular season interceptions.

Durant though is a bit of a mixed bag, as Pro Football Focus discredited him with allowing three touchdowns in the playoffs, including two in the NFC Championship game against the Seattle Seahawks, and another five during the regular season.

PFF ranked Durant the No. 180 free agent in this year’s crop.

Dallas was in need of a player who is capable of starting in the event their projected starting corners, DaRon Bland and Shavon Revel, are still dealing with their injuries. Bland had offseason foot surgery for the second time in two years, and Revel missed the first half of last season while recovering from an ACL injury his final collegiate year at Eastern Carolina.

Durant, 5-foot-11 and 181 pounds, has spent the last two years primarily as a boundary corner, but he played half of his defensive snaps in 2023 playing in the slot as well. In limited snaps as a rookie that was his primary role.

That diversity will give new defensive coordinator Christian Parker options in the coming season. He’s spoken highly of how integral the nickel position is to his plans. Dallas signed safety Jalen Thompson and he has ability to be a three-down nickel safety that doesn’t come off the field.
