The Washington Commanders have been busy in free agency. General manager Adam Peters has taken some big swings and missed, but has more than made up for it, seriously increasing Washington’s talent level, specifically on defense, while making the Commanders younger and faster.
Washington had more work to do on defense, and has landed multiple impact players at each level. Offensively, the Commanders had fewer holes, but still had significant needs. Last offseason, Peters focused on rebuilding the offensive line to protect quarterback Jayden Daniels. This offseason, it’s about surrounding Daniels with more weapons. That’s why Peters took swings at receivers Alec Pierce and Romeo Doubs. While he missed, it shows how serious Peters is about upgrading the position alongside Terry McLaurin.

On Wednesday, the Commanders signed former Titans tight end Chig Okonkwo. They followed that move by signing former Buccaneers running back Rachaad White, Jayden Daniels’ former college teammate. On Friday, Peters finally added to the receivers room, signing two, one of which is very familiar to Washington fans: Dyami Brown.
A third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Brown was mostly disappointing during his four-year tenure with the Commanders. However, his final season (2024) was his best. While his regular-season numbers weren’t great, it was clear the speedy Brown was developing a rapport with Daniels. And in Washington’s three playoff games, Brown had 14 catches for 229 yards and a touchdown.
Then, he departed as a free agent last March, signing a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now, Brown is back for 2026, and Daniels seems happy with the news.
This week, the Commanders also signed Daniels’ good friend and former college teammate, Rachaad White. And shortly after the news revealing Brown had signed, Washington also signed veteran wide receiver Van Jefferson.

Washington’s moves this week allows Peters to truly select the best player available in April’s 2026 NFL Draft, which could be another offensive playmaker for Daniels.
