One of the biggest looming questions surrounding the New Orleans Saints this spring that still remains is how to handle the free agency of long-time franchise legend Cameron Jordan. A 15-year veteran of the team, Jordan now enters free agency with the opportunity to choose how he wants to handle these next few years of his career.
With that being said, many still want to see him return to New Orleans, to finish out the remaining years of his career and ensure he only ever dons the Black and Gold. Recently, former Saints offensive tackle Terron Armstead discussed the topic on his YouTube Show, The Set, including what he has heard personally from Jordan regarding his options:
“I talked to him, he was traveling today, he went to go see a specialist, he’s just having conversations, so it’s real. He’s starting to speed date some of these other teams, his heart is in New Orleans, he would love to be back in New Orleans, he would love to finish his career as a Saint. Very few guys in NFL history have played 15, 16 years in one place, him just getting into that room is attractive to him. He’s not done at all, so don’t let him try to fool you, ‘I can go do TV’ or that B.S.”
All-in-all, this sounds like a positive for the Saints, as it seems Jordan still wants to remain with the team, provided things work out that way. Obviously, it is up to the franchise to provide him with a contract worthy of remaining with them, and with many veterans on their way out the door since Kellen Moore arrived, it is not exactly a guarantee as of yet.
Remaining in one city for 16 years over the course of an entire career is certainly appealing to many players when they get this deep into it, and it is abundantly clear how much Jordan truly appreciates the community and team. Hopefully, New Orleans is able to retain one of the best players in their history and let him wrap things up on a high note with the team he has always remained with.
