The Chicago Bears retain another core special teams player by resigning defensive back Jaylon Jones on a one-year deal.

After letting a majority of their secondary walk in free agency, the Chicago Bears bring back a core special teams player and depth piece, Jaylon Jones. It is a one-year deal for Jones, who will be returning for his fifth season with the team. He initially joined the team in 2022 as an undrafted free agent.

Jones has seen some action at cornerback over the last four seasons, but has primarily contributed on special teams. Jones is a key member of this team and a sound tackler. Since 2022, he has recorded 101 tackles with only seven missed tackles according to Pro Football Reference. His coverage skills leave a lot to be desired, but for now, coach Richard Hightower retains a key player as they head into the 2026 season.

The 2025 special teams unit, under Hightower, improved throughout the season and became a relatively strong unit by the end of the season. The Bears have made retaining their core of special teamers a priority with the re-signings of Daniel Hardy, D’Marco Jackson, and Elijah Hicks. That, combined with the new additions of Kalif Raymond and Cam Lewis, should allow this unit to take a step forward in the 2026 season.
