Hailee Steinfeld could be set for a big night on Sunday — but is apparently watching from home while her “Sinners” co-stars enjoy the spotlight.

The actress was not seen on the red carpet for Sunday’s Academy Awards, with both her and husband Josh Allen reportedly staying home as the due date for their first child is fast approaching. Though Steinfeld missed out on the big night, one of her co-stars shared an update on their work on the record-setting film.

Hailee Steinfeld Not in Attendance, But There in Spirit

There had been speculation leading up to Sunday’s award show about whether Steinfeld would make an appearance. She was seen at the Golden Globes in January, but showed off a growing baby bump, but has made sparse appearances since them.

Wunmi Mosaku, her “Sinners” co-star who is pregnant with her second baby, did make an appearance at the Oscars on Sunday and shared some insight on what it was like to film the movie with Steinfeld.

“Sometimes I felt like we were in pure delirium,” Mosaku told E! News on the red carpet before the Oscars regarding her work with Steinfeld. “We would play lots of card games. I introduced everyone to Rummikub—my favorite game—and Bananagrams.”

Mosaku added that the actors got very competitive on set.

“We took our games very seriously, especially Jayme Lawson,” she added.

Speculation Builds About Hailee Steinfeld

Many fans had expected to see Steinfeld and Allen together at Sunday’s Oscars, and the speculation grew immediately after she failed to show. Cosmopolitan noted that the impending due date is the likely reason for Steinfeld to miss what could be a historic night for “Sinners.”

“Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is nominated for a record-breaking 16 Academy Awards, and the cast is showing up at the Oscars to celebrate!” the report noted. “But not in attendance? Hailee Steinfeld, who’s skipped the last few awards season red carpets for a very good reason: she’s about to have a baby any moment now!”

Neither Steinfeld nor Allen have shared the exact due date, but both have spoken about their excitement about welcoming their first child.

Speaking at the team’s introduction of Joe Brady as their next head coach, the Bills quarterback said he’s ready for the most important chapter of his life.

“But this is the most important thing I’ll ever be in my life, being a dad,” Allen said. “And I know I love being a football player, and I love being a quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. But I’m looking forward to this one.”

The couple may have also dropped a major hint about the gender of the baby. Steinfeld has been sharing some information about her pregnancy in her “Beau Society” newsletter, and shared some photos that had fans speculating about the baby’s gender.

As Alex Brasky of SI.com noted, fans believe Steinfeld accidentally gave it away in a picture of some flowers.

“In the photo, Steinfeld displays her pregnancy along with a bouquet of flowers, some of which were light blue, and a light blue ribbon, leading many to insinuate that the 29-year-old mother-to-be was sending subtle signs that she and Allen are indeed expecting a son,” Brasky wrote.
