Best AFC 2025 NFL Draft picks

USA TODAY’s Tyler Dragon breaks down which teams in the AFC drafted the best this year.

Sports Seriously

Teams across the NFL typically resemble the child in a toy store – focusing on the shiny object. The league’s equivalent of that is a lot like drafting speedy receivers, running backs and anyone else that can sell a jersey or win fantasy football matchups.

That’s not the Los Angeles Chargers during the Jim Harbaugh era.

As they enter his second season, the focus has always been on improving the trenches. If the offensive and defensive lines are in good shape, that ultimately bodes well for the team.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that Justin Herbert is the quarterback in control for Los Angeles, but a solid offensive line is keeping him upright and a frisky defense is keeping his team in the game.

After the Bolts’ previous season ended unceremoniously in Houston, it’s all about turning the page for what they hope will be a better, more successful 2025. Here’s a look at the Chargers schedule for the upcoming regular season.

Record prediction: 10-7

The Chargers find themselves in an unforgiving division that managed to get even better this offseason.

The Chiefs might be wounded after a Super Bowl blowout loss, but they are still the team to beat. The Broncos are entering Bo Nix’s second season and continue to add to an already elite defense. The Raiders brought in a new regime and proceeded to add Geno Smith along with Ashton Jeanty in the draft, which should represent a major improvement for that offense.

While the rosters steal headlines, there is also the coaching side of things. Harbaugh has to match up against Andy Reid, Sean Payton and Pete Carroll – who all routinely get the most out of their teams – for six of the the 17 games.

With no easy wins in the against their direct competitors looming, the Chargers have their work cut out for them, even if they are better this season.

It’s easy to feel optimistic about Los Angeles, who should still make the playoffs. They have an improved offensive line, addressed their need at receiver and revamped their running back room.

Expect them to put together another solid season, even in a division that will leave its teams battered and bruised by playoff time.
