Ex-Patriots linebacker Jack Gibbens signed with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday.
Gibbens has reportedly signed a two-year deal.
The Patriots did not tender Gibbens, a restricted free agent, which allowed him to hit the open market. Last week, they signed ex-Dolphins and ex-Buccaneers linebacker K.J. Britt, who is expected to fill a similar role Gibbens played last year as a defensive backup and core special teamer.
Last season, Gibbens recorded 81 tackles, a sack, one forced fumble and four pass deflections. He started eight of 17 regular-season games. He also made two starts in the playoffs, when he totaled 19 tackles and allowed the only touchdown pass thrown in the Patriots’ Super Bowl loss to Seattle.
Gibbens originally signed a 1-year flier contract last spring after starting his career under Mike Vrabel in Tennessee. The 27-year-old leaves behind Robert Spillane, Christian Elliss, Chad Muma, Marte Mapu and Britt in the team’s inside linebacker room.
