The Pittsburgh Steelers are facing a quarterback decision in the near future, and there’s an obvious answer to what will likely happen if things go as planned.

Eva Geitheim, just as many, believes a reunion between Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers would make plenty of sense, as long as the veteran decides to return for the 2026 season.

“Aaron Rodgers hasn’t confirmed his plans for the 2026 season, but assuming he does return, it would make sense for him to run it back with the Steelers. Rodgers had a positive first season in Pittsburgh, helping them win the division and reach the postseason. With Mike McCarthy—who Rodgers played for in Green Bay—becoming the Steelers head coach, a reunion makes even more sense,” Geitheim wrote.

Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had the latest on what could happen if Rodgers doesn’t return.

“I think there’s also something to be said if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t come back,” Fittipaldo continued.

“The Steelers would never say it out loud, but that’s their chance to reset, right? They could actually go into the 2026 season — I’m not saying Will Howard would be the day-one starter, but eventually at some point in ’26 they would find out about him. If it worked out, great. Maybe you found your future starter in the sixth round. But if not, maybe you finish five, six wins, you’re picking in the top 10, and then you have a really good shot at one of these quarterbacks who are coming out in the 2027 draft.”

Rodgers’ first season in Pittsburgh proved he can still lead a good team, as the Steelers were a playoff squad.

Mike McCarthy adds another part to the story that makes a lot of sense. Rodgers and McCarthy spent years together with the Green Bay Packers, winning a lot of football games and building one of the best offenses Rodgers has ever been in.

Rodgers, now either hanging them up or in the later stages of his career, isn’t a multi-year solution, but he could still be what Pittsburgh needs as it tries to win this season.
