The former Minnesota Vikings running back signed with the black and gold on Tuesday on a one-year deal at the NFL minimum salary, and while his raw speed could add something that’s been missing from the backfield, he’ll have to do a better job harnessing it. The 4.38-second time he posted in the 40-yard dash coming out of college hasn’t popped off the screen often enough as a pro.

Some of that is due to health. Chandler missed most of the 2025 season recovering from a knee injury, and he’s been banged up before. But the Saints clearly see something they can work with in his game. Between reliable ball security (no fumbles, dropped passes, or muffed kicks in his career) and some promising reps on special teams (not just as a returner, but in coverage, too, with 10 tackles) he could earn a roster spot.
