Saquon Barkley called the 2024 Eagles one of the NFL’s top five teams of all time. A former nemesis offered an objection

There’s an old saying: Time heals all wounds honestly, whoever said that probably didn’t watch much football and was also not acquainted with any Philadelphia Eagles fans.

Time hasn’t healed the rift between the Birds and the Dallas Cowboys, and even though they aren’t technically a rival, time hasn’t mended the broken portions of the fences separating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ lawn from Philadelphia’s yard on the other side of the barrier.

We’ll discuss the Cowboys and Bucs more in detail in a second. Be patient. First, there’s a point to be made here.

Players who spent their careers wearing the wrong-colored jersey still might have difficulty recognizing the ‘brotherly love’ that the Birthplace of America is famous for. Find that hard to believe? Ask yourselves a question.

Why do you squirm whenever you hear Troy Aikman say anything during a Monday Night Football broadcast? Why is it that you’ve never warmed up to Keyshawn Johnson?

Saquon Barkley’s critique of the Super Bowl-champion Eagles gets a major clap back from Keyshawn Johnson.

Had Keysahwn spent his entire career with the New York Jets and written Just Give Me the Damn Ball and retired, Birds fans may not have cared much. That wasn’t his story. He was part of a Bucs team and was responsible for one of the worst memories harbored by Philadelphia sports fans, the final game at Veterans Stadium.

The Eagles’ final game at The Vet was supposed to be a coronation that punched a ticket to Super Bowl 37. Instead, you know what happened. Johnson scored on a touchdown reception. Then, to add insult to injury, after a four-year run with the Bucs. Keyshawn spent two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

Now, that’s just downright unforgivable.

These days, Mr. Johnson is employed by FOX Sports and hosts FS1’s Speak. Recently, he offered a retort to something Saquon Barkley said.

Following the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year’s claim that the 2024 Eagles were among the five greatest championship-winning teams in NFL history, Key fired back with a blistering response.

Yes, you heard him correctly… “Saquon Barkley would’ve had seven yards against our defense. I’m just going to keep it a buck. It can go viral. You can say whatever you want to say. Saquon Barkley would have had a rough day, and I love him as a running back.”

Johnson isn’t fibbing by stating the ’85 Chicago Bears were otherworldly. He isn’t erroneous in saying that a Buccaneers defense loaded with future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees would have posed a difficult challenge and a rough day at the office for a man who reverse-hurdled his way into the hearts of football fans everywhere.

No one knows what Saquon’s Eagles would have done vs. Johnson’s Bucs. Sure, it’s fun to talk about those types of things. Those are the conversations that make loving sports fun.

So, Saquon thinks his Eagles squad ranks among a handful of the best NFL teams ever. Cool. Keyshawn thinks his Bucs would have stopped them. Cool.

But Keysahwn also forgets that Tampa’s defense never lined up against an offensive line like the one playing Philadelphia. Most would have loved to have seen it happen, and most would have paid to have seen it happen, much like we would have loved to have seen Muhammad Ali fight Mike Tyson, but guess what? None of that is possible.

Here’s all we know. The Birds are still the champs, and Keyshawn Johnson still leaves a bad taste in the mouths of just about every Philly sports fan.
