GLENDALE – It didn’t take long for a former teammate of Kyler Murray to take his old jersey number from the Arizona Cardinals. Linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. is entering his third year with the franchise and is an integral part of the team’s defense. Wilson announced on social media that he will be changing his jersey number from the No. 2 to No. 1, a number Murray has held for the past seven years.
The 28-year-old didn’t wear No. 1 in the NFL or in College up to this point, but he is still sending a message with the change.

Wilson announces on social media jersey number change:
Wilson has been a leader of Arizona’s defense for the past two seasons. He joined a unit that was 31st in scoring allowed, and in his first year as the green dot was able to help make the jump to 15th in the league. In the first nine weeks of 2025, Wilson had the defense top 10 in points surrendered and was having the best season of his career. However, an injury vs. the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9 ended his season and derailed the Cardinals season, falling to 29th in points allowed and 3-14.

In his short time with the franchise, Wilson has become a vocal leader on and off the field. He has had a heavy presence on social media to support teammates and Arizona, releasing a song last offseason to reveal the schedule. Wilson is entering the final year of his three-year, $12.7 million deal and has played triple the value of that contract.
One of the Cardinals biggest priories next offseason will be to re-signing their new No. 1 to a long-term deal, as Wilson has earned a big payday.
