The Detroit Lions announced the signing of former New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys defensive end Payton Turner on Friday.

The 27-year-old has appeared in 31 career games, but he never played last season for the Cowboys as a rib injury kept him on the sidelines. Originally a first-round draft pick by the Saints in the 2021 NFL draft, Turner has totaled 50 tackles, 11 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, four passes defended, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in his career thus far.

The 6-foot-6, 270-pound defensive end played college football at Houston. Turner registered 115 tackles, 10 sacks, one forced fumble and an interception during his college career at Houston.
