Former Oklahoma Sooners star defensive back Tony Jefferson is re-signing with the team that has employed him for the past two seasons. Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Chargers announced that they’ve agreed to terms with Jefferson to reunite for the 2026 season.

Jefferson signed with LA in 2024, coming out of retirement to play for the Chargers. He’s been a solid member of the team’s secondary since then, appearing in 23 games and making 14 starts in that span, including the postseason. Jefferson has logged 84 tackles (54 solo), four interceptions, seven pass breakups and two tackles for loss with Los Angeles, with all four interceptions coming last season.

Before his time with the Chargers, Jefferson spent his career with the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, and New York Giants. He’s had a strong 12-year career, registering 549 tackles (402 solo), 9.5 sacks, 36 tackles for loss, eight interceptions, 31 passes defensed, eight forced fumbles and four recoveries in the regular season alone.

Of course, Jefferson was a star for the Sooners from 2010 to 2012, where he was an immediate stud as a true freshman, and helped anchor the defensive backfield in Norman from the safety position for three years. He was the Big 12 co-Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2010. Despite going undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft, Jefferson has carved out a very strong career for himself in the league; one that will be continuing for at least one more season.
