Could the Houston Texans target a late Day 3 option at wide receiver? There’s a name to watch for as potentially Houston’s final draft pick.

According to the Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan M. Alexander, John Carroll wide receiver Tyren Montgomery will meet with the Texans on April 11. As a native of Houston, it’s unclear if this will count toward the Texans’ top-30 visits or as part of the local visits.

Montgomery, who only started playing football a few seasons ago, has one of the best seasons in Division III history, totaling 119 catches for 1,528 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was invited to the American Bowl and then later continued to impress scouts at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

The Texans don’t need a game-changing wide receiver, having seen growth in young players like Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins, along with veterans Tank Dell and Pro Bowler Nico Collins. Still, adding depth with upside as a pass-catcher could be warranted late in the draft process.

Montgomery, who has ties to general manager Nick Caserio because of their John Carroll ties, very well could be a favorite to land in Houston with the right draft compensation.
