The Miami Dolphins opened organized team activities (OTAs) on Tuesday, but before they got started they placed second-year cornerback Jason Maitre on the injured reserved list. Maitre ended last season as a practice squad player for the Dolphins last season after joining the team earlier in the year as an undrafted free agent.
In his place, the Dolphins added cornerback Ryan “Bump” Cooper Jr. to the roster.

After going undrafted in 2024, Cooper signed with the Baltimore Ravens and appeared in one game with the team last season. He later spent time on the Seattle Seahawks‘ practice squad before the Dolphins claimed him off waivers in February. He was waived by Miami earlier this month.
Cooper played collegiately for Oregon State in 2022 and 2023. He played in 23 games with the Beavers, tallying 82 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 22 passes defended, and four interceptions.
The Dolphins have several young, unproven cornerbacks they’ve acquired in the last few seasons that all could be in the mix to battle for roster spot. After the pending Jalen Ramsey trade, the Dolphins are very thin at the cornerback position, so competition will be wide open through training camp. Cooper looks to get into the mix as well.
