Zach Wilson is moving on to his third NFL team since the New York Jets severed ties.
According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, the former second-overall pick is joining the New Orleans Saints on a one-year deal and will play back up to Tyler Shough.

“Saints are signing QB Zach Wilson, according to a source,” Underhill reported on Tuesday night. “Adds a veteran presence and some competition to the QB room behind Tyler Shough. Wilson, 26, was the No. 2 pick in 2021. He gives New Orleans a third quarterback with starting experience.”
ESPN has since confirmed this.
“The New Orleans Saints added a veteran to their QB room Tuesday, agreeing to a one-year deal with Zach Wilson, sources confirmed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter,” the outlet announced after Underhill broke the news.
“News of Wilson’s agreement with the Saints was first reported by Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football.”

A 2025 second-round pick, Shough had a very decent rookie season after replacing Spencer Rattler, who was drafted in the fourth round the year before and is still on the roster.
Head coach Kellen Moore told reporters at last month’s NFL Scouting Combine that the team would look to add one or two quarterbacks in the offseason.
Jake Haener, a 2023 fourth-round pick, was allowed to walk in free agency and has since joined the Kansas City Chiefs.

Wilson spent last season as a backup with the Miami Dolphins, making four appearances. Quinn Ewers was the one who got the starting nod after Tua Tagovailoa got benched in Week 16, with Wilson remaining a backup.

He completed 6-of-11 passes for 32 yards in his four appearances.
The 26-year-old previously spent time behind Bo Nix with the Denver Broncos and didn’t throw a single pass, though he says he learnt a lot with the team.
The Jets drafted Wilson at No. 2 overall in 2021 but pulled the plug on him in 2023.
Wilson has thrown for 6,325 yards, 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions, completing 57% of his attempts in five seasons.
Perhaps an opportunity to start could come his way in 2026.
