The new-look Chicago Bears are going to need some leaders to emerge if they want to be successful this season. Following a disappointing 2024 season, several Bears veterans discussed the need for accountability, and with several new players and coaches on staff, that should be changing in a big way.

One of the biggest acquisitions the Bears made this offseason was trading for veteran guard Joe Thuney, who has won Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. After protecting two of the best quarterbacks in NFL history in Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, Thuney comes to Chicago hoping to add a third big name to his resume, second-year quarterback Caleb Williams.

The Bears will only go as far as Williams takes them while he develops, and having leaders like Thuney should only help that progression. Last week, Thuney explained his leadership style and how he views the best way to lead for this football team.

“I always want to be available for the guys in the O-line room,” Thuney said. “Whether it be plays or situations or time of year, anything. To talk about things I’ve seen, things I’ve been through and then try toget a routine with guys and work. Whether it be after practice or after meetings or whatever. You want to be a resource for the guys and of show them my routine through the season, through the offseason. Like I said, the line room has been great, a lot of hardworking guys in there, a lot of guys that want to compete, want to play. It’s been going well.”

Chicago overhauled their offensive line this offseason, including the additions of Thuney, guard Jonah Jackson and center Drew Dalman, as well as rookie tackle Ozzy Trapilo, to pair with right tackle Darnell Wright. Having a proven winner like Thuney could not only help the offensive line come together in a quick manner, but the entire Bears squad.
