New York Giants linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux remains with the team for now.
Despite ongoing speculation fueled by the selection of Abdul Carter in the 2025 NFL draft and the presence of Brian Burns, recent reports indicate no active momentum toward trading the 2022 first-round pick

The Giants currently sit near the bottom of the league in salary-cap space with roughly $4 million available. Restructuring Brian Burns’ contract recently freed up $15 million, and a potential adjustment to Andrew Thomas’ deal could generate another $11 million.

Trading Thibodeaux, who is playing out his fifth-year option at a $14.75 million cap hit in 2026, would provide the largest single chunk of relief by removing his entire charge from the books, but Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports that there is “no indication” Thibs will be moved.
There have been no indications Thibodeaux will be moved; the belief remains the Giants are willing to move the 2022 first-round pick for the right package, but they aren’t looking to give him away. The Giants can afford to be patient, as having a quality No. 3 edge rusher is a luxury. But if Thibodeaux can be turned into an asset, whether a draft pick or a player, and the move produces significant cap savings, that would be a favorable outcome.
Earlier offseason reports suggested the Giants were open to listening to offers and would prefer to move the former top prospect, whose production has included 23.5 career sacks but has been hampered by inconsistency and injury concerns in some views. Market expectations have generally pointed to a limited return, potentially no more than a mid-round selection.
With a strong edge group already in place, New York can take a measured stance. General manager Joe Schoen has previously acknowledged inquiries about Thibodeaux, including around the 2025 trade deadline, yet no deal has materialized. The team’s patience reflects both the luxury of depth and a desire to avoid underselling a still-young, athletic pass rusher.
