The New England Patriots have been making moves across the board this offseason. That includes the quarterback position, even though the team already has its quarterback of the future, Drake Maye, in place. The backup job is a different story, though, as the Pats released Joshua Dobbs after re-signing Tommy DeVito to a two-year, $4.4 million contract extension earlier this offseason.

With just Maye and DeVito on the depth chart currently, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see New England look to add another player or two at this spot before training camp. It looks like that could happen during the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, as the Patriots reportedly met with Baylor Bears quarterback Sawyer Robertson.

“The Patriots reportedly had a virtual meeting with Baylor QB Sawyer Robertson,” Jack Aylmer of Musket Fire reported in a post on X. “Stands 6’4” and 216 lbs. The ‘25 second-team All-Big 12 member completed 304 of 504 passes for 3,681 yards and 31 TDs against 12 INTs last season. Also recorded 3 rushing TDs.”

While there aren’t a ton of top-tier quarterback prospects in this draft, there are several intriguing prospects who could be available in the later rounds. Robertson is one such guy, as he’s still a raw prospect who has the sort of upside that could make him a nice developmental project for the Pats.

Even if Robertson doesn’t play much for New England, if the team were to develop him into a quality option behind the scenes, it could lead to some more draft capital for the team in the future. And either way, the quarterback position is the most important spot in the game of football, so it’s important to have this spot well-stocked. As a result, Robertson could end up becoming a sneaky selection for N.E. on Day 3 of the draft.
