Breece Hall has been many things to the New York Jets over the course of his four-year run with the organization.

Their top rusher, a lightning rod of big plays, the workhorse, and an underused asset are just some of the many different impacts Hall has had on the roster. Through it all, the Iowa State product has looked to be paid at a level worthy of the caliber of player he believes himself to be.

New York tends to agree with him. The Jets placed the franchise tag on Hall, meaning a $14 million salary is coming his way for the 2026 season.

Hall is looking for more, though. He wants a long-term commitment from the organization. And at the NFL’s owner meetings on Monday, Jets general manager Darren Mougey provided an important update on that goal going into the next few months.

Jets provide Hall update

As a rusher, Hall is coming off his best statistical season with the Jets, despite the team’s horrid record. Despite just coming away with three wins, the former second-round pick totaled over 1,000 yards rushing for the first time in his career.

Keep in mind that the total came with the Jets fielding the league’s worst passing offense. With Garrett Wilson missing over half the year, Hall was New York’s lone true talent on that side of the ball.

New York understands that. It’s why the team is looking to lock Hall up to a long-term deal as quickly as possible, even if it means pushing talks until after the 2026 NFL draft.

“[Things with Hall are] good, things are in a good place, and I’m hopeful with Breece,” Mougey said at league owner meetings in Arizona on Monday. “Obviously, we’ll get through this draft process. After the draft, I’ll kind of shift my focus back there and hopefully get something done with Breece.”

New York fans should not be surprised by Mougey’s answer. The Jets’ first goal this offseason was to make sure Hall did not play for another team this year. They accomplished that with the tag.

Now, they need to find a way to keep Hall locked up in the long term. There’s no reason to feel rushed about it either. The Jets have until July 21 to agree to a contract with Hall.

Instead of rushing to get something done, Mougey and the front office are focusing their efforts on the draft, knowing they still have plenty of time to get a deal done with their top runner. The Jets have ensured they have the flexibility to get that done in the near future.
