Former New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore announced Thursday he is retiring from the National Football League after 13 seasons.In a video posted to his X account, Gilmore said in part, “The game ends here, but the journey continues. Thank you!”Gilmore played four seasons for the Patriots.In 2019, he helped New England earn its sixth Super Bowl ring in a 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams, where Gilmore had one interception and a forced fumble.Gilmore won the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2019 and secured two All-Pro nods during his tenure with the Patriots.New England congratulated him on his retirement, and said in part that he is “one of the best CBs to do it.”He went on to play for Carolina, Indianapolis, and Dallas in the following seasons.Gilmore last played for the Minnesota Vikings in 2024, where he recorded one interception in 15 games.He was drafted tenth overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 2012 NFL Draft out of the University of South Carolina.
