The New York Jets enter the 2026 NFL Draft with numerous needs. They have made moves this offseason to address some of their needs like trading for Geno Smith, Minkah Fitzpatrick and T’Vondre Sweat while signing Demario Davis, David Onyemata, Kingsley Enagbare, Nashon Wright, Joseph Ossai, and Dane Belton.

While they have been active this offseason, they still need more talent. They hold two first round picks, and with their second overall selection they have commonly been linked to taking a defensive player, but they could throw in a curveball. That curveball would be to go on and draft Jeremiyah Love instead.

TWSN Key Facts:

Player: Jeremiyah Love
Position: Running Back
College Team: Notre Dame
Potential Team: New York Jets

Why Would the New York Jets Consider Drafting Jeremiyah Love?

Defense still needs to be addressed, but the positions that the Jets need to address like edge, linebacker, and safety are deep for this 2026 class, so they could feel comfortable waiting until their second pick at 16th overall, or even the later rounds.

It is clear that the Jets have some interest in Love, as they ended up holding a breakfast meeting with him.

New York has Breece Hall back after they placed the franchise tag on him, but that only gives Hall one more season with the team if they can’t get a deal done. It seems clear they are going to look to get a quarterback in the 2027 NFL Draft class, like a Dante Moore, Arch Manning, DJ Lagway, or Julian Sayin, and if that proves to be the case they will need to structure the offense better for the future.

Having a running back like Love on the team would help give them stability at the position with a player on a rookie contract as well. Love’s 212-pound frame leads to him being able to be effective running through contact, but he also has the explosiveness and elusiveness to make an impact on the ground in multiple ways.

His big-play ability makes him a constant threat whenever he touches the ball, and is what led to Love having 2,874 yards and 36 touchdowns across three seasons. He has the home-run rushing ability and even has receiving upside. Having a player like Love would significantly help the Jets improve the offense for the future, and give them another building block with Garrett Wilson.

Impact On the Rest of the Draft

If the Jets pull off the unexpected move to draft Love, it would drastically change the rest of the draft. It would lead to players like Arvell Reese and David Bailey to definitely still be there, and cause teams that have been linked to Love like the Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, and Tennessee Titans to adjust their draft boards if they were expecting him to be there.

This could then open the door to more teams attempting to trade up as multiple teams would be sprinting to the phones to try to draft Reese if he started to fall.

Summary

Running back may not be New York’s biggest need, but if the Jets view Jeremiyah Love as one of the best players in the entire class, they could justify taking him because of how much he would elevate the offense. Love helps them raise the offensive ceiling, and helps them start to solidify the offense for the future.

This is a bizarre scenario that is unlikely to happen, but there is the possibility that the Jets could consider drafting Love.

Frequently Asked Questions

Could the Jets really draft Jeremiyah Love at No. 2?

It would be surprising, but New York has enough draft capital to justify taking a best-player-available approach if it views Love as a special prospect.

Do the Jets still need a running back with Breece Hall on the roster?

Hall is back on the franchise tag, but that does not guarantee he is part of the long-term future. Drafting Love would give the Jets insurance and long-term stability.

Why would the Jets pass on defense early?

The argument is that edge, linebacker, and safety are deep enough in this class that the Jets could still find defensive help later.

What makes Jeremiyah Love worth such a high pick?

His combination of size, explosiveness, contact balance, and home-run ability makes him one of the most dangerous offensive players in the class.
