Michigan head coach Dusty May said on First Take that he and the coaching staff already been on Zoom and phone calls with recruits from transfer portal that morning.

Hopefully, we can get another roster together in the next few weeks, and we can enjoy the title and reflect on it later.

This is just a statement to the nonstop calendar, the nonstop work, but also it’s Dusty May understanding, hey, we’re always in build it again mode no matter what we’ve accomplished in the past.

I don’t think that this is unique to Dusty May and to Michigan.

I think that any co– I, I think that, that Dan Hurley was probably doing the exact same thing.

I think that college football coaches do the exact same thing.

I think Corey Close was probably doing the exact same thing.

Like, they’ve all got rosters that they need to replenish.

I will say though, I think college basketball has got it right.

As unfair as it feels that Dusty May and his entire staff is waking up the morning after they win a national championship on Zoom calls and back to work without really enough time to, to fully let a championship sink in, I think college basketball has gotten it right.

Take notes, college football.

College basketball has gotten it right that the transfer portal opens after the national championship game.

You let the season finish before you start you- that next season begins, before you start next season.

College football, the transfer portal opens in the middle of the college football playoff.

So at least Dusty May has only next year to focus on.

Heck, if you were, you know, Dan Lanning, if you were, like, Curt Signetti, if you were Mario Cristobal, you were actively on Zoom calls with potential recruits and transfer portal players while you were also game planning for a national championship game or for a college football playoff game.

So yes, this stinks, and yes, you know, there’s no rest for the weary, but, welcome to modern era of college basketball, but it or college sports in general, but at least college basketball is doing it right.

Let the previous season end before you let next season begin.
