Arizona State tennis programs head to Big 12 tournaments

The Arizona State tennis programs are heading to the Big 12 tournament.

After spending the past two matches of the regular season in Utah against the Utes and BYU, the women’s tennis team will head to Orlando for the conference tournament. Led by second-year head coach Jamea Jackson, the No. 11 Sun Devils have been dominant in Big 12 play and are competing against TCU and UCF for the top spot.

Junior Emilija Tverijonaite surpassed the 30-win mark in singles on April 5, becoming the sixth Sun Devils player in program history to reach 30-plus wins in a season.

The women’s portion of the Big 12 tournament will begin on Wednesday, April 15.

No. 29 men’s tennis will begin conference tournament play on Thursday, April 16, in Orlando.

Sophomore Niels Villard was named Big 12 Player of the Week on April 7 after he went undefeated with wins in one doubles match and two singles matches. It was Villard’s second conference honor.

ASU will finish the regular season against UCF in Tempe on Sunday, April 12. The Sun Devils are 6-3 at home.
