There is a lot of attention on the Cleveland Browns this offseason, and not just because of Todd Monken, Shedeur Sanders, and their entire offensive line renovation.

A lot of the focus is on a potential Myles Garrett trade. Once again, his name is being thrown around in trade rumors.

However, an update from ESPN’s Dan Graziano revealed the “more likely” outcome with Garrett this offseason that isn’t a trade, but rather an even greater commitment from the Cleveland front office.

Browns ‘more likely’ to extend Garrett than trade him

“I think it’s more likely that Myles Garrett gets another contract bump from the Browns this offseason than gets traded,” Graziano said.

While the Browns could land a ridiculously impressive haul of players and draft picks if they dealt Garrett to any team, contender or not, they’re not expected to make such a move.

In fact, Graziano believes it’s more likely for Cleveland to extend Garrett, coming off his record-breaking 23-sack season, than that the odds are he’s traded.

Garrett surely would land a massive haul, but an even bigger contract extension than his $160 million four-year contract is seemingly the more likely outcome.

It’s a massive deal, but he’s not even the highest-paid defensive end, or even the second or third-highest paid player at his position. He’s the fifth-highest-paid player at the position.

A $40 million per-year deal is behind Danielle Hunter’s $40.1 million, T.J. Watt’s $41 million, Aidan Hutchinson’s $45 million, and Micah Parson’s $46.5 million deal.

Cleveland giving Garrett a pay raise, potentially to make him the highest-paid player at his position, would be a very bold move, especially one year after signing his $160 million deal.

But, such a new deal, in the eyes of Graziano, is more likely to happen than the Browns trading Garrett. If this rumor doesn’t shut the door on a Garrett trade (barring new information), then there’s not much that would shut down trade rumors.
