Dolphins GM clarifies Troy Aikman’s role in draft process

According to NBC Sports, Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan outlined how Aikman fits into the team’s structure.

“I can’t say enough good things about Troy and quite frankly Dan as well. Dan’s been here. Dan’s been in the room. Dan’s has been a tremendous sounding board for us.

“We’ve had a lot of fun together. … He’s been especially helpful for me with quarterbacks and receivers,” Sullivan said.

The comments emphasize the value of experience and perspective, particularly when it comes to key positions.

However, they also make clear that the final decision-making process remains within the established front office structure.

Sullivan further clarified that Aikman’s role will remain advisory rather than authoritative.

“Troy’s been a wonderful sounding board in his own right from afar. Troy will be part of equation moving forward. What that looks like, we’ll see.

“But he’s been a great sounding board, and I’m glad he’s going to be part of the equation. I know he’ll be here. He’s certainly welcome in the draft room,” Sullivan added.

The distinction is important, as it confirms Aikman will be present but not directly consulted when selections are made.
