The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for most, have to add defensive players early in the NFL Draft.
With the offense, led by Baker Mayfield, for the most part set, even with the loss of Mike Evans, Tampa Bay needs defensive help, with some mock drafts having the Buccaneers adding a pass rusher.
Of course, that varies with Keldric Faulk, Malachi Lawrence, and Cashius Howell all in the mix when the Buccaneers are on the clock.
But if you thought the Buccaneers were focusing on one position, you’re sadly mistaken, as general manager Jason Licht has detailed the franchise’s approach to the first round.
“I feel like I’ve said this every year, you can never go wrong with taking the best player,” Licht said via NFL.com. “You’re going to be happy at some point that you did instead of trying to force a pick.”

Can Buccaneers really leave offense alone in draft?
Regarding starters, I think they can. Of course, if a player like Carnell Tate or Jordyn Tyson somehow falls to the Buccaneers at No. 15, then that is a different conversation.
But I feel like the offense, even with the loss of Evans, is in good shape ahead of 2026. We have seen Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq be mocked to the Buccaneers as well.
Will the Bucs go defense in the first round? That feels like the move, but it is clear that the franchise isn’t backing itself into a hole either. They will take the best player available. So if a stud lineman or receiver is there at No. 15, and he’s the best player on Tampa Bay’s draft board, they will be the selection.
Usually, teams play it very close to the vest, but Licht just hinted at Tampa Bay’s strategy.
