I never considered myself a sports girl, but then my family moved to Pecatonica and everything changed.

I’ve spent more fall Friday nights than I can count over the last few years sitting on bleachers and yelling my lungs out for the Du-Pec Rivermen football team, and I’m shocked to say I love every minute of it.
My understanding of the game might still be subpar, but I know a talented player when I see one. Quarterback and Captain Lukas Rossow is one of those players.
Du-Pec Football Player Named Community High School All-Star
I may be completely biased, but most people would agree that some seriously special football talent has come through Du-Pec lately. We’ve had awesome seasons the last few years, and I was SO proud to see this post pop up on my Facebook feed on Thursday:
First off, this isn’t just another “nice job, kid” award. The Chicago Bears Community High School All-Star Award is a pretty big deal.
It recognizes high school football players across Illinois who aren’t just crushing it on the field, but also making a real difference in their schools and communities. The award honors leadership, character, and service, all the things Lukas Rossow is a shining example of.
Besides maintaining a 4.06 GPA, Lukas Rossow also volunteers at a local food pantry and plays basketball and golf.
Kyle Demus, Head Coach of Du-Pec Rivermen Football, shared the news and said:
We couldn’t be more proud of the person that Lukas is. The impact he has had on our football program, school districts, and communities is immeasurable. Deserving of this award in every way! Congratulations, Lukas!
Thank you to the Chicago Bears for recognizing him!
Along with the recognition, Lukas Rossow will receive a custom, hand-painted football, an invitation to an upcoming Chicago Bears event and $500 donated to the charity of his choice.
This recognition from the Chicago Bears isn’t just for putting up impressive stats. It’s for being the kind of kid younger players look up to and parents feel good cheering for.
Congratulations, Lukas Rossow! You’ve made the entire Durand and Pecatonica community very proud!
