Source: Texans have met extensively with Ohio State standout tight end Max Klare since scouting combine

  • April 18, 2026

HOUSTON – Ohio State All-Big Ten Conference tight end Max Klare, one of the top draft prospects at his position, has met extensively with the Texans since the NFL scouting combine, per a league source.

Klare is expected to be the second tight end drafted after Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq. Klare is making a sound recovery from an ankle injury that prevented him from fully participating in testing.

Klare has also met extensively since the combine with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers, including visiting the Buccaneers and Broncos at their training facilities.

Klare is known as a versatile tight end who’s an explosive route runner with outstanding hands and a good blocker. He is explosive with a large catch radius and diversity of patterns and creating separation.

A Purdue transfer who has drawn comparisons to George Kittle and Dalton Kincaid, Klare chose the Boilermakers over Cincinnati, Duke, Eastern Michigan and Georgia Tech.

Klare (6-foot-4, 3/8, 246 pounds) caught 43 passes for 448 yards and two touchdowns last season for the Buckeyes.

At Purdue, he was a third-team All-Big Ten selection two seasons ago. He led the team with 41 catches for 685 yards and four touchdowns.
