Caleb Downs is fond of the idea of carrying on a family tradition in the NFL with the New York Giants.
In a Wednesday interview with SNY, Downs said he views the possibility of following in his father’s footsteps by playing for the Giants as something special, should the opportunity arise in the 2026 NFL draft.
“It would be a blessed feeling, especially because my dad went there and he got drafted there,” Downs said. “It would be awesome. But, I mean, it would just be another challenge.”

Downs’ father, Gary, was drafted by the Giants with the No. 95 overall pick in the 1994 NFL draft. He played two seasons for New York, in 1994 and 1996.
Gary Downs played six seasons in the NFL as a running back and recorded 149 rushing yards for his career.
Caleb Downs is a candidate to be selected by the Giants with the No. 5 or No. 10 overall pick in the draft. The 21-year-old recorded two interceptions in 2025 at Ohio State. He also registered two forced fumbles and five tackles for loss that season.
Downs is regarded as the top safety in this year’s draft class.
