CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern Athletics announced they will be co-hosting a Women’s Flag Football Jamboree with the Carolina Panthers to help celebrate the beginning of the program at the varsity level at the university. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Buccaneer Field.
 
During the jamboree, there will be drills and an opportunity for the community to become familiar with the game of flag football. There will be time for individual work on evasion, route running and flag pulling, 1 on 1s, a 5 v 5 scrimmage to end the day and maybe other activities during the evening.
 
As part of the event, Charleston Southern will have a variety of giveaways to build the excitement towards the launch of the sport. Additionally, there will be food trucks at it including Whip It Good, Playa Bowls and Zaxby’s. There will be photo opportunities with the mascots at Jamboree including the Panthers’ Sir Purr, Charleston Southern’s Bucky and ones from the other Charleston sports teams.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Charleston Southern University announced the addition of women’s flag football as the 17th varsity sport at the university in January of 2026 with their first season to be in the spring of 2028. In March of 2026, the Big South stated that they will be the first NCAA Division I Conference to sponsor the sport and hold a championship in women’s flag football. On April 9, Angela Villarreal-Ortiz was officially hired as the program’s inaugural Head Coach.
