The New Orleans Saints have established a specific, odd, track record when it comes to selecting college football players from LSU during the NFL Draft. The only NFL team that operates in the state of Louisiana consistently skips over available prospects coming out of Baton Rouge.

The Saints have not utilized a draft pick on an LSU player since taking center Will Clapp with their final pick in the 2018 draft. The front office has made dozens of selections across multiple seasons without bringing another former Tiger onto the main roster…continuing an eight year drought.

On top of that, the Saints have NEVER taken an LSU Tiger in the First Round of the NFL Draft, EVER.

Other NFL Franchises Build With LSU Players

While the Saints look elsewhere for draft picks…other other teams aggressively target the talent pipeline coming from the Tigers. Other franchises continuously load their depth charts with highly rated prospects produced by LSU.

The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants lead the current draft metrics by each selecting 21 former LSU players over the course of their franchise history. The Detroit Lions have also utilized 18 total draft picks on Tigers to help construct their active team rosters over the years.

The New Orleans Saints appear to be allergic to drafting LSU players. Since the franchise started, they’ve picked less than a dozen LSU Tigers in the annual NFL Draft.
