Caleb Williams has broken his silence on the pre-draft report. The Chicago Bears quarterback addressed the media for the first time since ESPN’s Seth Wickersham’s excerpt was released that detailed Williams’ initial hesitancy to play for the organization prior to the 2024 NFL Draft following OTAs on Wednesday at Halas Hall.
Williams addressed the report head-on, making a statement before any questions were asked. The second-year quarterback discussed the report not being something he wanted to come out at this point but confirmed he had thoughts and questions about the organization prior to visiting with them last year.
“We’re focused on the present,” Williams said Wednesday. “This whole situation has been a distraction, and taking the time to address it today is important.”
The report detailed that Williams initially wanted to go to the Minnesota Vikings, and while Williams said he had a great visit with them and coach Kevin O’Connell, he maintains that came before he met with the Bears.
After the visit with the Bears, Williams said he wanted to be part of a group that could turn the organization around and focused on those comments when addressing the media.
“I wanted to come here and be the guy, be a part or the reason of why the Chicago Bears turn this thing around,” Williams said. As far as the comments that were made, the former No. 1 overall pick isn’t dwelling on them and is excited about working with head coach Ben Johnson. “Him being here, being the head guy…so far it’s been awesome and I think everyone’s been enjoying it,” Williams said.
