New England was slated to make its first selection at No. 31 after reaching the Super Bowl in February, the Patriots’ lowest first-round pick since 2019, when the team took N’Keal Harry at No. 32 after winning Super Bowl LIII two months earlier.

The Patriots ended up making their first selection a little earlier than expected, moving up from No. 31 to No. 28 to take Utah left tackle Caleb Lomu.

The Patriots parted with one of their 11 picks to move up for Lomu, sending their extra fourth-rounder — No. 125, acquired in a draft-day trade last year — to the Bills to move up three spots. Along with their own selections in each of the seven rounds, New England also has three extra sixth-round picks accumulated through trading Joshua Uche, Keion White, and Kyle Dugger.
