San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been impressive through his first three seasons in the NFL, completing 67.5% of his passes for 9,518 yards, 64 touchdowns and 27 interceptions while leading the 49ers to a 27-15 record (including playoffs).
Despite being the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft, Purdy took advantage of his opportunities, earned and kept a starting job and was recently awarded a five-year, $265 million contract extension that makes him the seventh-highest paid quarterback in the NFL ($53 million annually).
While Purdy certainly has his detractors, there are plenty who see how well he’s performed in his 42 career starts, including Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe, who recently shared that he’s studying Purdy’s film to prepare for his first season in the NFL.
“What’s unique about Brock is he played in the same system that I’m in right now,” Milroe told FOX Sports. “So, it’s been great to see the tape and see some of our reads and play calls and watching him play.Â
“He understands his feet are tied into the read and pocket integrity. When he plays on time, that’s when he’s at his best and he’s been most efficient. That’s what I’ve been able to capture as I’ve studied his game.”
Milroe, 22, was a four-star prospect out of Obra D. Thompkins High School in Katy, Texas, before committing to the University of Alabama for the 2021 season.
After backing up former first-round pick Bryce Young for his first two years, Milroe took over as the full-time starter in 2023, earning All-SEC honors. Last year, he completed 64.3% of his passes for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while rushing for another 726 yards and 20 scores.
Seattle took Milroe in the third round (No. 92 overall) of the 2025 NFL draft. He’s expected to be the third quarterback on the Seahawks’ depth chart behind newcomer Sam Darnold and the returning Drew Lock.
Purdy probably loves the idea of other quarterbacks watching his tape for ideas and inspiration for their NFL career, but the fact that it’s another quarterback in the division makes it even more interesting.
