The New Orleans Saints are on the verge of making the decision that could dictate whether or not they’re going to be a winning season. Actually, the ripples of this decision could extend into the next few seasons.

In the next few weeks, the Saints will have to decide if they’re going to retain one of the greatest running backs in franchise history, Alvin Kamara.

The Kamara Decision the Saints Have To Make

Kamara is entering the final year of his contract, and he’s set to make a ton of money this season. Which is going to be a big portion of the Saints’ salary cap. Kamara is set to make $11.5 million in 2026, which in football terms is a lot for a 31-year-old running back.

Especially when the team just signed a free agent running back, Travis Etienne, to a four year contact that averages $11.8 million per season.

So now, the Saints can ask Kamara to either take a pay cut, release him after June 1st, or trade him…or they can just keep him at his current rate, but that’s highly unlikely. That means we could be preparing for a major shift with the Saints franchise.

Where Could Kamara End Up After New Orleans?

So if the Saints go ahead and release Kamara, where will he go? Its very safe to say he’s not going to retire, so he’s going to be looking for a new team.

The list of teams looking for a running back in the final years of his career will be determined by how much money he’s looking for. If he’s willing to take a big enough pay cut, why wouldn’t he just stay in New Orleans?

If he’s not going to take a pay cut, that means you have to find a team in need of a running back, and management who is a little unhinged. Which is actually a team that currently exists in the NFL.

Ladies and gentlemen…the Dallas Cowboys.

Could The Dallas Cowboys Sign Alvin Kamara?

While the Cowboys do like their young running back Javonte Williams, they currently only have a rookie backing him up on the depth chart.

Kamara wouldn’t walk into Dallas as their number 1 running back, but he’d be a security blanket for the offense. If Williams gets hurt, Kamara is there. If Williams can’t get it going on the ground, Kamara can catch out of the backfield. Essentially, he would be a great compliment, not a replacement.

The biggest part of the equation…Jerry Jones is a bit of a psycho. He might bring Kamara in, and overpay, just to rip him from the Saints. And to maybe sell some jerseys too.
