The Buffalo Bills brought back veteran cornerback Tre’Davious White this offseason, signing the Bills’ former first round pick to a one-year, $6.8 million contract.

White had a rough start at Buffalo’s first round of OTAs this week. NFL MVP quarterback Josh Allen targeted him several times in drills. White is expected to play an important role in Buffalo’s secondary, although questions linger about how much speed and agility is left in White after two major injuries in the 2020s.

Bills Digest reporter Alex Brasky reported that Allen targeted White twice to start the team’s practice on May 27, including a couple of connections for long gains.

“A few notes from 11v11 team drills at #Bills voluntary OTAs: -Josh Allen finds Curtis Samuel streaking across the formation, TD against Tre White,” Brasky wrote in a post on X. “Allen finds Elijah Moore downfield, Tre White in coverage”

While White’s start may have been rocky, he managed to turn things around later in practice, showcasing some of the speed and coverage skills that earned White All-Pro honors in his first stint with Buffalo.

“Tre’Davious White is back in a Bills helmet and uniform. I thought he looked good today. Quick feet and change of direction,” noted WGR 500, reporter Sal Capaccio in a post on X.

Of course, the first day of practice may not mean much. Early practices without pads or contact do tend to favor offenses, so perhaps White’s rocky start does not indicate much about his depth chart standing.

The Bills selected White with the No. 27 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. White earned Pro Bowl honors twice, including a First-team All-Pro selection during his first seven years with the Bills.

White had an NFL-leading six interceptions in 2019. During his seven-year tenure with the Bills, White intercepted 18 passes in 82 games, while breaking up an additional 68 passes.

White has been hampered with injuries since 2022, after playing 72 games in his first five NFL seasons, and has played in just 21 games with 14 starts over the last three seasons. 2024 was the only season of White’s career without an interception, despite playing in 11 games, his highest mark since 2021.
