If Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey says it enough times, more often than not, that thing he wouldn’t shut up about at one point eventually comes to fruition.

Recently, Sankey has stumped for a Power 4 conference breakaway within the NCAA. In other words, the current Division I college football structure would be broken into three divisions of its own: the fat boys (the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC), the chubby boys (the relaunched Pac-12, American Athletic, Mountain West, MAC, Sun Belt, and Conference-USA), and the smallest of the big guys (the equivalent of today’s FCS division teams.)

Greg Sankey re-emphasized today that the SEC’s preference for a future NCAA governance model is to create a separate P4 division within the NCAA where the power conferences can legislative independently and with full autonomy, but also continue competing in NCAA championships.

But will Sankey get his way?

As of now, it seems less than likely.

This does not necessarily align with a new NCAA governance proposal circulating that grants the power leagues 65% rule-making authority.

The SEC wants the P4 to hold 100% voting power within this separate division – a proposal the P4 made in January https://t.co/lXouQlg5g1
